Thursday 26-09-2024 - 13:33

Starting university can be an absolute whirlwind – Freshers’ Week is full of excitement, new faces, and endless events. But what happens when the buzz dies down and reality sets in?

So many students, new and returning, experience the “post-Freshers blues” – that moment when things settle down, and the newness of uni can feel a bit daunting.

You might be feeling low, homesick or overwhelmed – and that’s completely normal, we’re here to help!

Student Minds

At Student Minds, the UK's student mental health charity, there are resources to help you manage the transition to university life.

Whether it’s building a social network, managing expectations, or just figuring out how to juggle it all, they’ve got your back.

Through their Student Space, you can find specific support for students like you, with guidance on:

  • How to cope with homesickness;

  • Managing academic pressures

  • Tips on returning to university and adjusting to changes in your social life

  • Building positive routines to maintain well-being

They even have support based on whether you’re a returning or new student.

Whether you’re dealing with academic challenges, personal issues, or just need someone to talk to, the Advice Centre is here to help. It’s free, confidential, and completely student focused.

The Centre provides a safe space for students to book into whenever they need. Whether you want to chat to someone on the phone, a video call, or visit in-person, everyone is welcome to get free and confidential support.

Your Student Wellbeing Officer – Gracie Otley

Plus, don’t forget about your very own Student Wellbeing Officer, Gracie.

As the Student Wellbeing Officer, Gracie’s role focuses on student mental health, safety, and overall welfare. She works to improve support services, promote wellbeing initiatives, and ensure students have access to the help they need during their time at university.

Whether you need advice, a friendly chat, or support with any well-being concerns—yours or someone else's—Gracie is your go-to person.

You can find the Student Officers on the second floor of The Union building.
