We’re looking for a values-driven leader to join The Union, Manchester Metropolitan to help us build the infrastructure and organisational capability and capacity that enables us to be a high-performing, effective charity.

Who are we?

Located in the heart of Manchester, The Union is part business, part charity, part membership body—and central to the student experience at Manchester Metropolitan University.

Our team of around 60 full time and up to 150 part time staff, work alongside elected student leaders to support all aspects of student life. We are committed to supporting all 39,000 of our student members to achieving personal success.

We do this by running a variety of services including sports clubs, societies, change campaigns, volunteering opportunities, student representation and an advice service. We also host events in our conferencing facilities and operate a bar, shop, pub and coffee shop, as well as a range of social spaces and bookable study rooms.

The Union is one of 550 students’ unions across the country. And we’re one of the most exciting—with over 39,000 student members and 100 student groups, a huge range of services and a bold strategy.

What's the job?

In this new role, you will oversee our work related to our commercial services, including retail, food and beverage and conferencing. You will also oversee our central services, including IT, building support, health and safety and compliance.

You will ensure excellent operational standards across the organisation and ensure our work is supported by the right systems, structures and policies to enable us to deliver for students.

What are we looking for?

An experienced leader with a focus on organisational development, operations, commercial services or related functions. Someone passionate about building organisational capability and capacity, who is strategic, outcomes-focused and committed to continuous improvement.
