What Student Officers do

  • Represent students at all levels of decision making within the University
  • Represent students in the local community
  • Lead The Union’s political direction
  • Run campaigns on your behalf
  • Hold the University to account on decisions that affect students
  • Five officers are also Trustees of The Union
  • Any student can stand for election
  • Every student has the opportunity to vote
  • Work in a full-time role for an academic year

Being an Officer - from start to finish

July 1: New Student Officers start

The newly elected Officers take up their positions at The Union as representatives of the students of Manchester Met.

July - September: Training

The Officers get training to help them settle into their roles and narrow down what projects and campaigns they want to work on.

September: Getting on with the job

Officers will lead campaigns and projects, attend meetings, and hold events to help improve students' University experience.

January - March: Next Officer Elections open

Nominations open for students to put themselves forward to be the next Student Officer team.

March: Voting and new Officers elected

After the Officer candidates have campaigned for their chosen position, students will vote and elect a new Officer team.
