Write a note to your future self and check back in during Semester 2. Part of The Student Self Care Movement.
On October 3rd, he asked me what day it was. It's October 3rd… or at least it was when I sat down to write this blog but I blinked and it turned into the 8th!
How’s everyone been since my last one of these? From what I’ve seen you’re all busy lil’ bees! I was overwhelmed at the fabulous turnout at the committee training day on the 12th September. You were all so refreshed after the summer and filled to the brim with amazing plans and ideas for the year ahead! From the return of Pole Dance’s Spingo Bingo to Physio’s Football Tournament, your enthusiasm has me hyper! And trust me I needed the energy boost! You then absolutely smashed it at Fresher’s Fair on the 18th — I was so proud to see how much energy and positivity you had the whole day, plus it was a lot of fun to check in with you all and collect stickers from each of you to the point where I could barely see my t-shirt under them all!
I know you’ve all been busy planning and running events since then, and I hope that they’re all going as well as the few I’ve been into and seen. I can’t emphasise enough how you all went from strength to strength during Welcome Week, ending it on such a high at the Student Takeover! The night was awash with talent — Pole Dance opening the night strongly with performances from both Tom and Alex. Next, Jess blew the audience away with her singing before Breakdance closed the first half with such an ambitious set! MMU Cheerleading opened our second half with masses of energy, leading nicely into Gilbert and Sullivan with their comical set of songs. We ended the night with much love from our two Cheshire performances — Ella’s songs set us up nicely for Basiks to sass their way to close the night. All in all those who took part had a lot of fun and were absolutely amazing!
On the topic of Crewe they had their own showcase for Societies too. I wasn’t able to make it and I’m so gutted after hearing what I missed out on! Holly Mumford, Chair of MMUsical gave me a rundown of the event: "The Showcase was a collaboration of all societies on the Cheshire Campus to present an evening of talent, and also to remind people which societies are continuing this year! We had quite a few people turn up and it was a free event! We had performances from: Pole Fitness, Cheerleading, Giggle Dungeon, Open Mic, Genesis Theatre, Basiks, MMUsical Theatre and we also had Plant Club hold a raffle in the interval! Arts and Craft Club and Christian Union also included their session times at the end of the evening; overall it was a really fantastic event to kick start the year for societies!"
My last bit of news is to do with your Societies Council this year! We elected them last week and I’m looking forward to working with them this year. If anyone hasn’t seen the results yet, they are as follows:
Chair — Evelyn Sweeny
Vice Chair — Adam Kealey
Academic Rep — Ibtisam Ali
Faith Rep —Claudia Torto
Hobbies and Interest Rep — Philip Orton
Media and Performance Rep —Faye Hemingway
Nationality and Culture Rep — TBC
Campaigns and Liberation Rep — Savannah Middleton
Political Perspectives Rep — Callum Breese
Crewe Societies Reps — Grace Knowles and Holly Mumford
A massive well done to all those who were elected and all the others that put themselves forward! Now the last bit, I promise! You’ve all been doing so well and representing your members amazingly, just remember that it doesn’t end here and you all have the rest of the year ahead of you. Keep going and keep up the amazing work! And if you ever need me I’ll be at the end of a phone call, email or Facebook message. I love you guys!
