Drug safety alert: Ketamine

Friday 07-06-2024 - 09:42

The Union is here to support every single student at Manchester Met, without judgement. If you’re looking for advice, please contact our Advice Centre or reach out to one of the recommended organisations below.

What’s happening?

The Union has been notified by Manchester Drug Analysis and Knowledge Exchange (MANDRAKE) that Ketamine circulating in Greater Manchester has been found to contain the substance Xylazine.

What does it mean?

Xylazine is a potent sedative used by vets on large animals. The combination of Ketamine and Xylazine can be fatal if consumed by humans.

Who is MANDRAKE?

Manchester Drug Analysis and Knowledge Exchange (MANDRAKE) is a licensed scientific resource based at Manchester Met. They work to facilitate health and safety through advanced drug testing services, monitoring emerging substance use trends and changes in drug markets across Greater Manchester. Their goal is to empower individuals with accurate information about substance use, helping them make informed decisions and reduce potential risks.
