Write a note to your future self and check back in during Semester 2. Part of The Student Self Care Movement.
Now that you’ve settled into uni life, we’re sure the reality of your studies may be starting to kick in and there’ll be quite a few thoughts and worries running through your mind. What if I fail a unit? What if I can’t meet my deadline? I don’t feel good enough - just to name a few.
But, we’re here to support you through all those doubts, and our Advice Centre provides friendly and professional advice on everything academic and more.
If you’re looking for a quick and easy answer, here’s some easy tips, info and advice based on a few of our most frequently asked questions.
This is something probably every uni student experiences, but there’s a few resources/procedures that may help put your mind at ease.
If you look on your Moodle page, specifically your assignment submission area, you’ll find a self certification link which allows you to add an additional 7 days to your deadline. Sometimes this gives you that extra bit of time you need to collect your thoughts and submit the best work possible.
If you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed and need someone to talk to for advice or just some support, contact our Advice Centre.
There’s a few different types of extensions you may be eligible for, including the self certification which does not require evidence and adds 7 days to your deadline.
Other options include a 2-3 week extension or a longer deferral to the next academic period, these are often used for more extreme cases and you may be required to provide evidence for your request to be approved.
Check out your Moodle area and the University website for more details on how and when to apply.
This occurs when the University has concerns that your work is not entirely your own and you may be called for a meeting whilst they investigate this.
Typical reasons for these types of meetings include any form of plagiarism and the use of AI or essay mills - paying someone else to do your work for you is a very severe form of misconduct which may be treated differently.
If you’ve been invited to a misconduct meeting, don’t hesitate to get in touch with the Advice Centre as they can talk you through what to expect, help you prepare, and in some cases can even attend the meeting with you.
It can be tough at times, but we’re here to make it as easy as possible. Our expert team of professionals at the Advice Centre are always on hand to help with any queries.
Pop in and see the team at The Union, book an in-person or online appointment, drop an email, or check out some of the helpful resources already available to you.
