Write a note to your future self and check back in during Semester 2. Part of The Student Self Care Movement.
Take a break from all that hard work you’ve been doing since the start of term – here’s some cool things worth going to in Manchester this month, plus who doesn’t love free stuff?
Remember, remember, the fifth of November – Bonfire Night at Heaton Park
OK, so you might have to pay for your tram or bus ticket, but with a funfair and fireworks, this is the perfect place to wrap up warm and celebrate. Fun fact, up until 1959, it was illegal to not celebrate Bonfire Night in the UK.
There is a light that never goes out – Manchester’s musical past in pictures
Check out this free photography exhibition at Central Library highlighting Manchester’s music heritage. From the rise of punk, Factory Records, The Hacienda, the Madchester years and beyond – see the impact this city has made on music.
History on your doorstep – see Stephenson’s Rocket at the Science and Industry Museum
Returning to the city for the first time in over 180 years, Stephenson’s Rocket was a steam locomotive on the Liverpool and Manchester Railway – the world’s first ever inter-city passenger railway line. And if you’re not that into trains, the museum is definitely worth a visit anyway.
Feeling festive (already) – Christmas lights switch-on and Christmas Markets
Yes, we used the C word. Zippy is back and so are the markets. Enjoy the light switch-on and fireworks on Saturday 3 November and from 9 November the market stalls are here with their treats, sweets and mulled drinks that will inevitably burn your tongue. The markets are here until 22 December, so you have plenty of time to snap a selfie with that giant Santa.

Dashing through the snow - Park Runs near you
Yes, winter is coming but if you want to stay active in the outdoors, check out the free Park Runs that take place early on Saturdays. Find one near you and make sure you wrap up warm. Don’t forget the free Active Campus sessions from MMU Sport too, which are fantastic to meet new faces, get active and boost wellbeing.
