Hello everybody! Firstly, how are you?
I thought I'd use this month's article to remind you to take a quick pause to check in with yourself.
Life can get stressful right? Especially with a million and one things going on at uni. But if you’re here reading this right now, let’s take a breath in this moment together. You are doing just fine wherever you are in this journey, and I want to remind you, you’ve got this. Be proud of the person you are becoming.
Because that’s the thing, it can be so easy to get caught up in the chaos- we're all guilty of doing it, even me. So, let’s take this time to reflect together.
Wow, as I sit here and write this article as your elected Wellbeing Officer, I can feel the aura of the girly who moved next door to The Union in Cambridge Halls on her very first day of university. She was so naïve of what was to come. Little did she know where she would be 2 years later, as a director of the building she once walked past every day.
Let me tell you this wasn’t my plan at all, but it couldn’t have worked out any better.
Stay aligned with your true authentic self and trust the process, it’ll all work out. Embrace the good and the bad in every opportunity you get. Uni isn’t just about learning about your subject. It’s about getting to know yourself.
Be gentle with yourself and use this time to nurture a deeper connection with who you are. This is probably one of the first times in your life you get to do that and of course it can be scary, sometimes you might choose to ignore that little voice in your head. But how beautiful is it that you get to send every day as the person that you are? Embrace it.
As we navigate Semester 2 and the workload starts piling up, I wanted to take a moment to share the advice I wish I’d known during my first 2 years at Uni…
I’ve found that routines are one of the best ways to keep on top of life and make sure you give yourself the time you deserve to do the things you enjoy. Uni can be difficult to plan around but even setting yourself daily or weekly plans helps you to become the best version of you. If you treat your weekly schedule like going to work, it’ll l help you to form a routine.
Having a simple morning and evening routine sets yourself up for the day and calms you down before bed. There’s so much info online you can find out about these. It might take a while to find one that works for you and that’s ok.
Meal prepping for the week ahead saves SO much time and money. Being prepared with my food, means I don’t have another thing to worry about and enables me to stay healthy. But its ok to treat yourself every now and then- we all deserve it!
The best way I try to balance everything in my life as a student is through the 5 areas of personal development: professional, social, mental, physical and emotional. You may have seen these inspired my latest campaign the Student Self-Care Movement. Be sure to have a look on The Union’s the website for it to find some inspo!
This is a term I often read and didn’t understand, until now. If life feels tough and you know there’s a decision you feel you need to make in your gut, trust it. No matter how challenging it may seem.
It was following that little voice in my gut that got me to the position I am in now. I like to think of the voice as my highest self, guiding me to where I need to be. Some decisions can be really scary to make, just like my recent decision to not re-run in the Student Officer elections and return to Uni to finish my final year.
Only you know what that little voice is saying. We never truly know what’s going to happen next, but we get to live this life as the person we choose to be. Trust yourself, you know what’s best for you and your future self will thank you in the process.
The future you is sat at tables you didn’t even know existed.
Finally, here are some questions to ask yourself as we reflect on our journeys together:
Feel free to write them down and keep them safe.
Wherever you are right now, remember to give yourself time to reflect in your day.
If you want more positivity throughout your week or to stay up to date with upcoming campaigns such as more on the Student Self-Care Movement, remember to follow my Instagram where I share everything I get up to as your officer and more!
We’re all in this together, trust YOUR process.
