In a city as exciting as Manchester – and at a uni as big as Manchester Met – there can be so many things to do in your first few weeks that it can be hard to know where to start.
That’s why we’ve put together this guide to our Welcome events to help you find the perfect events for you.
There’s no better introduction to your uni experience than The Union’s very own indoor festival, Welcome to Manchester. With live music, food, a photobooth and more, this is the perfect event to get to know your new flat mates or meet some new friendly faces.
But that isn’t all, we’re transforming our Main Hall to host our thrilling Roller Disco and absolutely bonkers Big Balls Bingo, hosted by comedian Che Burnley. This isn’t your average game of bingo – prepare yourself for a night of entertainment with lots of prizes to be won.
If you’re that mate who demands control over the music at pre’s, our Cafe Karaoke is your time to shine. Have total power over the tunes and sing your heart out.
Speaking of pre’s, get yourself over to The Salutation for their 200 years and speed quizzes. Get your team names ready!
If all of that wasn’t enough, why not come and immerse yourself in cultures from across the globe at Culture Fest. Get the chance to try food and drink from all over the world as we celebrate the beauty of traditional crafts and cultural performances.
Feeling worn out from Freshers' nights out and in need of some wholesome TLC? Sit back and relax—we’ve put together a guide to our most laid-back activities to help you settle into uni life.
A full day of movies, Domino's pizza, popcorn and more? Yes please! At The Union we’ll be having our very own Film Fest, showing: Shrek 2, Dune: Part Two, Hot Fuzz and The Cabin in the Woods - there’s something for everyone. Get your tickets now!
A new academic year means a whole new wardrobe. Get yourself down to The Union’s very own Vintage Clothing Sale. The Main Hall will be transformed into the wardrobe of your dreams with vintage gems, from retro jackets to classic denim. Don't miss out!
Student halls looking a bit bare? How about kitting out your new home with a trip to IKEA. With exclusive student discounts and freebies to get your hands on, you don’t want to miss this.
If you’re looking for a relaxed atmosphere where you can chat to students in the same situation as you, we’ve got a selection of amazing events to help you do just that. Pop down to our Mature Student Mixer or Commuters Chat and Chill
Free stuff is the best stuff, which is why we’ve got two full days of the most iconic event in the uni calendar – Freshers Fair.
This is a massive event, where we’ll be taking over Sugden Sports Centre, to bring you more freebies than you can carry – including a free slice of Domino’s Pizza, prizes to be won and student discounts from local and national brands.
Here you’ll be able to sign up to Clubs and Societies and meet them of course. Both days are open to all students so feel free to come back twice for double the freebies!
You don’t even need to be new to Manchester to want to explore and see more of what this special city has to offer.
With a wealth of culture, music, history – and everything in between – you won’t fall short of things to see.
The Union is hosting two walking tours around the city, starting with Totally Manchester, giving you on-the-go information on the city’s iconic streets and locations.
The second tour, Suffragettes and Significant Women, will give you the chance to learn more about famous women from Manchester including Emeline Pankhurst, Lydia Becker, and Annie Kenney.
Get yourself over to The Salutation pub to be artistically inspired with poetry readings, art discussions, book launches and more! Who says you have to spend freshers in a club the whole time?
