Our University welcomes students from all over the world. This month we asked our international art students to showcase their culture through our logo in their own artistic style. Here are some of the amazing concepts they came up with:

This multicultural composition was designed by Zayyena Shoaib Anwar. It illustrates the authentic Pakistani and Emirati cultures into The Union smile.
“This little art piece represents both cultures that I am familiar with and was brought up around; Pakistani being my nationality and the Emirati culture representing the environment I grew up in. The left side is the Pakistani culture which depicts our iconic 'chai' and a famous 'Sindhi' clothing pattern called the ajrak. On the other side is the Emirati culture with its traditional 'Gahwa' and the 'Ghatra' pattern that’s usually found on the head garments for men. On the top are both countries' postal stamps.” - Zayyena Shoaib Anwar.

This dreamy design was created by Leah Da Silva. It encapsulates the aesthetic of Dubai and Shanghai into The Union logo.
“I visioned the logo as a swing, carrying the girl from a multinational background, to a colourful and bright future. The two building silhouettes on the left are famous landmarks of Dubai, and the two on the right are Shanghai's popular landmarks. I grew up in both of these cities and met people from all sorts of backgrounds and cultures. Being in Manchester has added another colourful cloud in my sky. This is my idea of the drawing, but it can be up to interpretation!” - Leah Da Silva

This colourful logo was designed by Pamela Simoes, bringing a flavour of Venezuela to The Union smile.
“Each drawing represents Venezuelan culture in different ways - such as our music, food, festivities and important places. Venezuelan people are always friendly and have a happy energy. We’re very proud of the beautiful things in it, like the Salto Angel waterfall or even the national bird (Turpial). We also love seeing our own people succeed and support anyone who supports our country in any way, that’s why we love watching any sport or event where a Venezuelan person is in it. I just hope that anyone from could see a little of what Venezuela is about and anyone Venezuelan who sees it, I just want them to remember how special our country is as I did while making the project.” - Pamela Simoes
