What is a student led projects?

The Union offers Student-led projects, for students to lead and make a change for an issue that they’re passionate about.

The Union supports student-led projects that enrich the experiences of other MMU students. This could be in one of two ways:

  • A campaign or project addressing an issue MMU students face and improving their experience e.g., body image campaign
  • A project offering an enriching experience to students such as a volunteering role or an opportunity to gain skills and meet friends through an activity, e.g. STAMP

How to do I start my own project?

The starting process is super easy. The first step is to submit an idea through the form provided and, tell us what the idea is and the impact it’ll have. The Union Led Projects Coordinator will get in touch with you to discuss your project, where you will work out an action plan with a timescale, which works for you. You can find more information and form on our website.

What’s in it for you?

Not only will you work on something you’re enthusiastic about, but you’ll also gain amazing skills such as:

  • Events planning
  • Completing risk assessments
  • Supporting with training sessions with other student volunteers
  • Creating promotion materials for the project

The Union provides you with one-to-one support and guidance from the Union Led Projects Coordinator as well as leadership training and a budget for the project resources.

Put your passions into actions and Make a Change

If you feel like the university or The Union isn’t doing enough for students or the community, you can make a positive impact through a Student Led Project. Whether it’s homelessness, period poverty, environmental issues, whatever idea you have, you’ll be supported throughout the whole process with resources, staff support and where applicable, financial support.
