Student Officer Elections: What Could You Achieve?

 Nominations and Recommendations for the 2025 Student Officer Elections are now closed.

Each Student Officer plays such an important role in shaping university policies, campaigns, and student experiences. You’ll have seen us describing what each student officer does, but we thought we might as well show you what you could do in these positions through sharing past Officer achievements.

 


 

📢President

The President acts as the primary leader, they make sure your views are always heard – big or small. From advocating for student safety to maintaining top-tier relationships with important people, this role is key to making sure your student experience the best it can be.

What Past Presidents Have Done:

  • Campaigned for harm reduction measures to improve student safety, particularly in the nightlife scene.
  • Built stronger bonds between students and the local community.
  • As a Governor of the University, they’ve had a hand in shaping policies that impact all students – from fees to sustainability efforts.

 


 

📚Education Officer

The Education Officer is all about improving your learning experience whilst at Manchester Met. Whether it's improving course feedback or making sure you’ve got the resources you need, they’re your academic advocate, they lead the Course Rep system and campaign to make your studies better.

What Past Education Officers Have Done:

  • Worked with Course Reps to tackle feedback delays, making sure student concerns about course content, teaching, and assessments were addressed promptly.
  • Improved access to academic support, making sure students who are struggling get the help they need. One officer even hosted events that focused on the important balance between study and mental health care.

 


 

💛Wellbeing Officer 

The Wellbeing Officer is your go-to for all things student wellbeing. They focus on everything non-academic, from mental health to housing – ensuring that you feel supported and safe as you navigate uni life.

What Past Wellbeing Officers Have Done:

  • Led the charge on mental health campaigns, pushing for better access to counselling and support networks, making sure you’re never alone when the going gets tough.
  • Teamed up with uni and private landlords to tackle housing issues, helping students facing dodgy landlords or accommodation nightmares.
  • Championed mental health awareness with campaigns aimed at reducing stigma and ensuring that everyone feels safe seeking help.

 


 

🎭Societies and Development Officer 

The Societies and Development Officer is here to make your time at Manchester Met one to remember! From funding to events, this officer ensures that your favourite societies get the love and resources they need to thrive.

What Past Societies and Development Officers Have Done:

  • Campaigned for increased funding and resources for societies, helping them throw epic events and promote their activities.
  • Worked on building a volunteer culture, encouraging students to step up and organise events that give back to the community.
  • Helped new societies take off, so you can find your people and have fun whilst at uni.

 


 

⚽Sports Officer 

The Sports Officer is your go-to for anything sports-related. Whether you're an elite athlete or just want to join in for some fun, this role makes sure there’s a spot for you in the world of student sport!

What Past Sports Officers Have Done:

  • Made sure students have access to better sports facilities and that everyone can join in, no matter their level.
  • Worked closely with sports clubs to give athletes the support they need, from coaching to national campaigns.
  • Promoted healthy lifestyles, helping you smash your fitness goals while looking after your mental health too.
