Teaching Awards 2021: winners announced

Tuesday 01-06-2021 - 11:55

This year’s Teaching Awards winners were revealed on Wednesday 26 May, live on The Union’s Twitter.

The Union’s Teaching Awards celebrate excellence in teaching at Manchester Metropolitan University. Each year, students get the chance to nominate the individuals and teams who go out of their way to make their learning experience the best it can be.

To highlight ways in which our students have been supported through the difficulties of the past year, we added two new categories to this year’s awards — Outstanding Commitment to Mental Health and Wellbeing Support and Outstanding Online Teaching During the Pandemic.

We were over the moon with the turnout for this year’s winners announcement on Twitter, following a superb 1,094 nominations across the awards.

We started the announcement of the winners with a short (super wholesome) video of some Manchester Met students explaining exactly why they nominated their teachers for a Teaching Award.

All seven award winners were announced, including the Outstanding Commitment to Inclusive Learning and Teaching. Some of our wonderful BAME Ambassadors told us why inclusive learning and teaching is so important in this short video:

The final award of the night comprised of The Union’s Award for Outstanding Achievement. With this special award, we aimed to recognise the commitment of a group of staff who provide essential support to teaching and research. They often fulfil many other roles such as pastoral support, author articles and have been vital to the sector’s response to the pandemic. Congratulations to our winners: Manchester Met Technicians.
