Write a note to your future self and check back in during Semester 2. Part of The Student Self Care Movement.
Black Students’ Group is a sub-group of The Union, MMU. The group has a committee who lead campaigns and projects to improve the experience of Black students at MMU.
Black African and/or Caribbean students (including those with mixed heritage that includes Black African and/or Caribbean heritage) can be committee members of Black Students’ Group. We welcome students from every faculty and level of study at MMU. Non-Black students can be involved by supporting campaigns and attending some BSG events.
If you would like to be involved, but you are not a Black student, or you would like a lower commitment level, sign up for the Anti-Racism Newsletter to hear about the Black Students’ Group.
You can apply to be on committee through our website. The committee will be 6-12 students. Further students can be involved by attending open meetings and events, volunteering and supporting campaigns run by Black Students’ Group. Committee roles are unpaid volunteering roles. We expect this role to take approximately 2 hours a week. This may be more in the run up to events or activities and will be flexible to allow for less commitment when students have exams, deadlines or holidays.
The group are autonomous, but supported by The Union and Student Officers. The group are encouraged to campaign and run activities, projects and events which address challenges faced by Black students at MMU. The committee will be expected to attend closed and open meetings, and keep in touch with staff and Student Officers at The Union about their activity.
