Chinese New Year is right around the corner, and we’re bringing you all the facts, fun and events you’re looking for. Also known by some as Lunar New Year, it’s a time filled with joyous festivities and celebrations, and there’s so many ways you can get involved!
The UK’s brightest celebrations begin this Saturday 11 February, with live performances, food, stalls and even a funfair spread all across the city.
And of course, we couldn’t welcome the Year of the Dragon without the return of the City’s legendary Dragon parade 🐉
Here’s everything you need to know and how you can get involved:
Lunar New Year celebrates the beginning of a new year on the lunisolar calendar - many people around the world celebrate this time with their friends and families and welcome good wishes for the year ahead.
Start off the celebrations at Manchester Museum with live performances and workshops to start creating your decorations.
Stop by our reception area and grab your own Lunar New Year envelope, a tradition that involves gifting red envelopes to your loved ones - filled with goodies to symbolise good wishes and luck for the new year.
Head to Chinatown for a funfair, live music and performances, stalls, food & drink and of course Manchester's famous red lanterns.
Ever wanted to see a 175ft dragon dance through the streets of the city? Well, this is probably one of your only chances!
The festivities continue at The Portico Library - catch a traditional Lion Dance and some other fun and enriching activities.
