In a city as exciting as Manchester – and at a uni as big as Manchester Met – there can be so many things to do in your first few weeks that it can be hard to know where to start. We’ve put together this guide to our Welcome events to help you find the perfect events for you. Just click on the theme that sounds like your cup of tea and we’ll do the rest.
There’s no better introduction to your uni experience than our Welcome to Manchester night. With some of Manchester’s best DJs playing all sorts of genres throughout the night in our massive Main Hall. This is an event that you can bring your new flatmates to or come as you are and meet other students at.
Our Main Hall isn’t just for club nights though, we’ll be transforming the space to host our super popular Roller Disco and even our interactive bingo night, hosted by comedian Che Burnley. Bingo and a quiz might not sound like a party, but this isn’t your average bingo - we guarantee it’ll be more exciting than a standard night at the pub, with wild prizes to be won.
If you’re that mate who demands control over the music at pre drinks, our Open Deck Night is your time to shine. Have total power over the tunes, with help from our resident DJ – Jordan Caldwell – as well as free retro arcade games to play and prizes to be won at the end of the night.
Like the sound of board games all day and pop punk all night? Our Dungeons and Flagons all-dayer is where you need to be. We’ve teamed up with Manchester’s best alternative club night, Deadbolt, to take the party through the night with pop punk, emo and alternative tunes.
If that wasn’t enough, we’ve got our Culture Fest Night – where you can get your face painted with the flag of your nationality, grab a cocktail flavour from around the world and dance the night away with a fantastic Ceilidh band. As well as our Afro Beats event – a collaboration with Band on The Wall that brings amazing talent from all over the world to your students’ union.
Sit back and relax, because we’ve pulled together a full guide to our most laid-back activities to help you settle in to uni life.
We’ve got 7 rounds of sunset yoga at The Union from 24 - 30 September. Pop along for a mindful and relaxing wind down to your day with a professional tutor to guide you and a warm welcome to any level of ability.
Make your halls a home by grabbing yourself one of The Plant Shop Manchester’s beautiful plants and decorate your walls by choosing from a selection of hundreds of poster designs at our plant and poster sale at The Union.
Fancy a board game? Get yourself along to Meet the Societies, where you’ll be able to get stuck into a huge collection of board games with like-minded gamers. Our amazing student societies will be at this event too, giving you even more opportunity to get involved and meet some friendly faces.
If you’re looking for a relaxed atmosphere where you can chat to students in the same situation as you, we’ve got a selection of amazing events to help you do just that. Whether you pop down to our Mature Student Mixer, grab a slice at Postgrad Pizza, Chill & Chat with other commuting students or drop into the PGR Hangout, we’ll have Welcome Reps on hand to help break the ice and get great conversations flowing with new people.
Free stuff is the best stuff, which is why we’ve got two full days of the most iconic event in the uni calendar – Freshers Fair.
This is a massive event, where we take over The Union and SODA (School of Digital Arts) building, to bring you more freebies than you can carry – including a free slice of Domino’s Pizza and prizes to be won from Bongo’s Bingo, Amazon Prime, Escape to Freight Island and so many more.
Day one of Freshers Fair is your chance to meet all of our amazing student societies and day two gives you the opportunity to chat to all of our incredible sports teams, but both days are open to all students so feel free to come back twice for double the freebies!
