Student Officer Elections 2025: Nominations are now open, get yourself in the running.
SOCIETY AIMS:
1. To provide an open space to allow students to navigate their cultural identity.
Everyone has different cultural experiences, and this shouldn’t be viewed as a limitation when entering a professional environment. We want to create a space where you can explore your lived experiences with peers and empower you to leverage your differences. Additionally, we want to create awareness of mental health, which is often ‘swept under the rug’ in relation to the black community. We want to establish a space where students feel open to discuss their mental health and explore the potential to find ways and means to improve it.
2. Create an environment that promotes and celebrates diversity in black communities, led by peers in those backgrounds, who relate to your experiences.
Celebrating how far you have come often goes unnoticed. We want to create a safe space to champion your achievements, regardless of your desired outcome. This could be through events such as open mics with guests to provide an opportunity to hear about their journeys.
3. Be a space to make strong academic and professional connections supplemented by open discussions across various topics, that affect you as students and aspiring professionals.
These discussions could be held amongst the student network and involve guest speakers/alumni, or panels discussing current affairs that affect you as students. Together we can broaden our commercial awareness to better equip us for competitive application processes. We want students within BSN to be equipped with the necessary tools and have the confidence to excel towards your aspirations.

Had a search through all our societies and can’t find the one you’re looking for? Why not set it up yourself!
It’s really easy and we’re here to support you throughout.
Some societies are free to join, whilst others may have a small fee of around £5 to £10 for the whole year.
Your joining fees are then used to cover the running of the society (sometimes there’ll be extra costs if the society offers classes, special events or trips).
Any questions? Drop the society a message or speak to us.
Current Manchester Met students are welcome to join our societies all year round.
Freshers Fair is a particularly great opportunity for you to meet and join our societies in person.
For existing societies, committee members are chosen by members of the society through an online election. Elections take place in March ready for the upcoming academic year, and the role of committee member runs from July to June.
For new societies, the founding members choose their committee to get started.
