Hey and welcome to the Computing Society! We are Manchester Metropolitan University's One and only Software, Hardware, and everything tech Society.

  • We invite industry professional from all over the country to discuss the latest trends and innovations in the computing industry
  • We attend the largest tech events in Manchester and beyond and sponor society members ticket and/or travel costs
  • We organise, in collaboration with The University of Manchester, yearly Hackaton
  • We visit software houses and get an inside look on where our favorite softwares are developed and the minds behind them.

Setup a new society

Frequently asked questions

Each society has a set fee that's decided by the committee, which is made up of students who run the society.

All fees collected are used to cover the society's operational costs and put into their society account. Some societies are free to join, others may have a small fee of around £5 to £10 for the whole year.

There may be extra costs for classes, special events or trip. If you have any questions, just drop the society a message.

There will be an opportunity for you to join societies at our Freshers Fair event in Welcome Week and as long as you're a current Manchester Met student our societies will welcome new members all year round.

Society members choose their committee members online. The elections usually take place in March for the upcoming academic year. The committee members' role lasts from July to June.

If the society is new, the founding members get to pick their committee to get started.

To book a room for your society you just need to fill out a booking form. Our team needs at least one week's notice to secure your room.

You can request any bookable space in The Union or the University. Please check the building's opening hours before booking and note that certain areas may not be appropriate for your planned activities, but we can suggest an alternative.

It's important you wait for confirmation of your booking from us before spreading the word to your society members.
