Indie Society

Indie Sound, Universally Renound; Join Our Society and See Where You're Bound

Manchester is the Indie musical and lifestyle hub of the UK. Together, with our brother Society at the UoM, we aim to enhance the alternative scene by bringing together likeminded people into a community of love and appreciation. Any easygoing individual interested in the classics (Cure, Smiths, Stone Roses, Oasis), the newer stuff (Courteeners, Arctic Monkeys, The Vaccines) or anything in between is welcome to join us on our weekly socials and nights out to Manchester's bustling Indie Night Life, or come to any of our get-togethers through the year.

What We Do

• Weekly Socials/Nights Out - Every week we venture out into Manchester's Indie night life with discounted tickets and/or drinks at most venues such as 42s, Venue, Deaf Institute.

• Alternative Socials - Some weeks we will hold alternative socials where we will partake in Indie Bingo (B-Indie-Go), general get-togethers at local pubs and bars for more chilled and varied events.

• Gigs - We will coordinate with our members to attend local gigs around Manchester, big and small alike.

• Support Members' Musical Endeavours - If you are a member and part of a band or an aspiring artist, we will help give you exposure and attend any gigs or events you partake in as a society, supporting you on your journey

Want to create your own society?

Had a search through all our societies and can’t find the one you’re looking for? Why not set it up yourself!

It’s really easy and we’re here to support you throughout.

Frequently asked questions

Some societies are free to join, whilst others may have a small fee of around £5 to £10 for the whole year.

Your joining fees are then used to cover the running of the society (sometimes there’ll be extra costs if the society offers classes, special events or trips).

Any questions? Drop the society a message or speak to us.

Current Manchester Met students are welcome to join our societies all year round.

Freshers Fair is a particularly great opportunity for you to meet and join our societies in person.

For existing societies, committee members are chosen by members of the society through an online election. Elections take place in March ready for the upcoming academic year, and the role of committee member runs from July to June.

For new societies, the founding members choose their committee to get started.

Fill out this booking form, giving at least one week’s notice to ensure the room is secured. You can request any bookable space in The Union or the University, but first make sure to check the building’s opening hours.

You should definitely wait for confirmation of your booking before spreading the word to your society members.
