Rock Society

"Jesus Christ Marie, they're not rocks, they're minerals!"

The Rock Society is full of people who love rock, metal and alternative music; but also love meeting new people. This society provides alternative, rock loving students an environment to get involved with the local scene and make new friends! We host a pub social every Tuesday, as well as regular study sessions. Not to forget other events throughout the year, like Halloween (our favourite!). So if you're a fan of alternative music and want to meet some like-minded folks and find all the best spots in Manchester then read on!

We coordinate most things on Instagram so follow the link, join the page and see what we're all up to!
We also have a Facebook!

You can also find our discord server via both links.

Our Events

  • Alternative Freshers Week - The Rock Society is throwing its own week of events during freshers week to provide the freshers experience for people who want rock music on their nights out. We hang out at (or host) the best selection of rock pubs, bars, clubs and venues
  • Socials every week - Every Tuesday we hang out at our favourite rock pubs and clubs. We do other socials throughout the week too. Even when there isn't a social, the Rock Soc Facebook is a great way to round up a few people and meet up!
  • We host events and parties periodically thoughout the year, such as: Halloween, Christmas and end of year
  • Study sessions on campus, weekly or fortnightly, depending on room availability. So if your academic commitments make it hard for you to join the pub socials, do not fret! There's something for everyone to get involved with.

Want to create your own society?

Had a search through all our societies and can’t find the one you’re looking for? Why not set it up yourself!

It’s really easy and we’re here to support you throughout.

Frequently asked questions

Some societies are free to join, whilst others may have a small fee of around £5 to £10 for the whole year.

Your joining fees are then used to cover the running of the society (sometimes there’ll be extra costs if the society offers classes, special events or trips).

Any questions? Drop the society a message or speak to us.

Current Manchester Met students are welcome to join our societies all year round.

Freshers Fair is a particularly great opportunity for you to meet and join our societies in person.

For existing societies, committee members are chosen by members of the society through an online election. Elections take place in March ready for the upcoming academic year, and the role of committee member runs from July to June.

For new societies, the founding members choose their committee to get started.

Fill out this booking form, giving at least one week’s notice to ensure the room is secured. You can request any bookable space in The Union or the University, but first make sure to check the building’s opening hours.

You should definitely wait for confirmation of your booking before spreading the word to your society members.
