In case you didn't know, Saturday 08 March is International Women's Day.

This is a celebration across the globe of the achievements, resilience and contributions of women. The day acknowledges the progress that has been made towards gender equality so far but also the challenges that are still faced today. So, IWD raises awareness of the need for people to keep advocating for equal rights.

How Winning My Role on IWD Shaped Me

When I was elected as your Society and Development Officer last year on IWD, it was such a defining moment in my journey as a woman. The role gave me the platform to amplify student voices, create meaningful change, and grow into a confident leader.

Stepping into this position has pushed me beyond my comfort zone, allowing me to develop resilience, communication skills, and the courage to advocate for others. International Women’s Day is a powerful reminder of how far we’ve come and how vital it is to continue uplifting and supporting one another.

Why IWD Matters

International Women’s Day isn’t just a yearly event—it’s a reminder that the fight for gender equality is still ongoing. This year’s theme encourages us to celebrate how far we’ve come while pushing for a world where all women feel empowered, respected, and have equal opportunities.

One of the best things about IWD is the sense of unity and empowerment it brings. It’s a time for women to support each other, share stories, and inspire the next generation. Whether through mentorship, advocacy, or community support, women can continue to break barriers and achieve great things.
